What is Pulmonology?

What is the first step?

Blood tests: A sample of the blood is examined to check for blood platelet counts, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels as well as cancer cells.
Spirometry: This test determines the volume and speed of air flow inhaled or exhaled by your lungs. You will be asked to take a deep breath and exhale into the device which then displays the volume and rate of air flow, thus throwing light on any abnormalities or obstructions.
Bronchoscopy: A bronchoscope is used to review the inside of the airways and lungs for any potential obstructions or abnormalities.
Image tests: Tests such as Chest X- rays or CT-scans are used to identify possible structural abnormalities of the respiratory system.
